Sealant Gluing Techniques

    In daily life, sealants are widely used. In the construction process, how to apply sealants with bright surface, uniform thickness and good sealing? In order to achieve good construction effect, in addition to purchasing good sealants, you also need the correct sealant application tools and construction process.
 Construction Preparation

  1. The glue gun is an indispensable tool in the process of gluing. Put the sealant with the cut nozzle into the glue gun (cut the nozzle diagonally to form an inclined glue outlet that is basically the same as the gluing width) and push the handle to the bottom of the sealant to fix it.

  2. Masking tape has various thicknesses and is suitable for different occasions. It can be found in stationery stores or hardware stores. In the preparation stage of gluing, use masking tape to leave the distance for the final glue strip. After gluing and scraping the surface flat, tear off the masking tape immediately. Using masking tape can not only help you to make the appropriate width, but also protect the surrounding substrate.

  3. The scraper has a variety of different angles, such as right angles, outer rounded corners, inner rounded corners, beveled angles, etc. Choose the shape of the glue strip you want, and use the scraper to scrape off the excess sealant after the gluing is completed, and then a smooth and bright surface can be formed.

  Construction process

  The substrate area that the sealant contacts must be kept clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, rust, grease, and other contaminants. Non-porous substrates must be cleaned with a clean, white, lint-free cotton cloth and solvent. Remove any residual solvent as soon as possible with a clean, dry cloth before it evaporates. Before applying the sealant, cut the nozzle of the sealant cartridge, install the nozzle, and cut the nozzle to the required size. The sealant can be applied in dots or layers and requires exposure to moisture from the air to cure.

  What should we pay attention to when applying glue?

  Make sure the sealant is no deeper than it is wide. If the gap between the two substrates is large, filleting may be inserted to improve the performance of the sealant. Smoothing the sealant with a suitable tool will create a more aesthetically pleasing surface; at the same time, the sealant is pressed into the joint surface, helping to eliminate air pockets or voids in the bond line.
