The new product line—comprising SL8311 (transparent), SL8511 (colored), and SL8611 (rooftop)—delivers more than 10 years of weather resistance and is designed to preserve building facades while providing long-term waterproofing and contamination protection.
Previously, silicone coatings in Korea relied heavily on imported materials, resulting in unstable supply chains and elevated costs. KCC Silicone, through its own R&D capabilities, successfully localized silicone resin production, enabling the launch of SL8311—the country‘s first 100% silicone coating.
“Silicone coatings are inherently expensive due to raw material costs,” said Ahn Myung-soo, Senior Researcher at KCC Silicone’s Sealant/Adhesive Technology Team. “However, by manufacturing our own silicone resins, we launched Korea‘s first 100% silicone coating. This product dramatically improves coating durability, comes with a 10-year warranty, and can be used almost permanently.”
The Hyundai Jeoksun Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul—a structure more than 40 years old—served as the first project to apply the new coating system. The transparent SL8311 was selected to preserve the building’s original texture while enhancing weather resistance and reducing long-term maintenance costs.
“High-quality products help minimize defects, lowering overall project costs,” a representative of Hyundai Jeoksun Building explained. “Since the coating lasts longer, repair and maintenance costs can also be reduced.”
The global silicone coating market is projected to exceed $8.6 billion in 2026, with the Asia-Pacific region contributing 42.3% of demand. Within China‘s concrete waterproofing agent sector, silicone-based products are expected to see demand exceeding 1.2 million tons in 2026, driven by infrastructure upgrades and green building policies.
The launch reflects a broader trend of localization in high-performance construction materials, as domestic manufacturers in Asia close the technology gap with established multinational suppliers.
